11 die in Uttara Kannada crash, 4 in Raichur

Bengaluru, Jan 22 (UNI) Eleven people lost their lives in a tragic accident on Wednesday morning in the Arebile area of Uttara Kannada district.

The victims, primarily vegetable vendors enroute to Kumta market, were travelling in a truck that veered off course and plunged into a deep valley.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah extended his condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them of compensation. “The state government will ensure support to the affected families during this difficult time,” he said.

Local police responded swiftly to the accident, coordinating the rescue and shifting the injured to nearby medical facilities for immediate care.

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy highlighted the urgent need to address road safety concerns. “Inadequate infrastructure, rash driving, drowsy driving, and violation of traffic rules are contributing to such accidents. Authorities must take immediate steps to prevent further loss of precious lives,” he said.

Karnataka BJ President Vijayendra Yediyurappa, expressing his sympathies, said, “The pain of the bereaved families is unimaginable. I urge the state government to ensure appropriate compensation for the families of the deceased and cover the medical expenses of the injured. May the departed souls rest in peace.”

In a separate mishap near Sindhanur in Raichur district, three students and the driver of a vehicle from the Veda Patashala of Mantralayam lost their lives when their vehicle overturned.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed his profound grief over the tragedy, extending condolences to the victims’ families and urging officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
