- Better health initiative through joint program of Education and Health Depts
Bhopal: School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Secondary Education and National Health Mission are jointly running the “Umang School Health” and Wellness program in all high and high secondary schools. The program aims to develop life skills among the students so that they can easily achieve their goals and take appropriate decisions for better health. This program is being run in 9 thousand 306 schools of the state and 21 lakh students are getting its benefit.
Training arrangements
For better implementation of the “Umang Program”, 52 state level, 427 at the district level and 2 teachers in each school have been made Arogya Ambassadors. In the program, different ‘Umang’ modules have been prepared for students of classes 9 to 12 according to their age. The module mainly includes serious issues like self-awareness, nutrition, gender violence, child marriage, sexual harassment, domestic violence, cyber safety. Through these issues, students can understand what is right and what is wrong for them.
Special focus on health
Special attention is being given to the health of adolescents studying in schools through the “Umang Program”. Iron folic tablets, health checkups, nutrition related tests are being done regularly for the students. Along with this, there is a special arrangement to provide information to the girl students about sanitary pads, hygiene and safe management during menstruation. Special emphasis is also being given on making schools tobacco free through the “Umang Program”.
Appreciation of “Umang Program”
The positive results continuously received from “Umang Program” have been appreciated at every platform at the state government level. “Umang Program” has also been awarded. “Umang Program” has received more than 25 lakh views on YouTube and more than 9 lakh positive feedback from students and more than 38 thousand feedback from teachers. 10 posters have been made with the aim of developing respect for girls and women among students. These posters are proving to be helpful in creating a sense of respect for women. “Umang Program” is also being continuously reviewed by departmental officials.
