Srinagar, Jan 14 (UNI) Five people lost their lives, and two others were critically injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles in the Kargil of Ladakh Union Territory, officials said.
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon on the Katpakachey Shilikchay road, approximately 2 km from Kargil city, when a Tipper and a Scorpio vehicle collided.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to plunge into a deep gorge, resulting in the immediate death of five individuals. Two others sustained severe injuries.
The injured were rushed to the District Hospital in Kargil, where their condition remains critical.
Soon after the accident Police and local people rushed to the spot for the rescue operation.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Hassan, a resident of Stakpa, Liyaqat Ali, of Choskore, Mohammad Ibrahim, of Badgam and two non-local individuals whose identities are yet to be confirmed.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Councillor Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Mohammad Jaffar Akhoon expressed profound grief over the tragedy and extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and peace.
