6.7 magnitude quake hits E. Cuba

Havana, Nov 11 (UNI) A 6.7 magnitude earthquake jolted eastern Cuba on Sunday, said the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS).

According to the CENAIS, the earthquake occurred at 11:49 a.m. local time (1649 GMT) 32 km south of Pilon in the province of Granma, nearly 900 km from Havana, and affected the eastern provinces of Cuba.

Just an hour earlier, the CENAIS had reported another 6.0 magnitude earthquake, about 48 km from Pilon.

So far no casualties or material damage have been reported, although both tremors were “long-lasting” and “very noticeable” on the southeast coast of the country, the agency said.

The tremors were also felt in Camaguey and Ciego de Avila in the center of the country, it added.
