New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Around 6,700 Indian students have returned from Bangladesh so far, helped by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, following the violent anti-quota protests that engulfed that country, the MEA said today.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, answering questions at his weekly briefing, said: “So far 6,700 Indian students have returned from Bangladesh.”
The spokesperson also said that India is hopeful that the situation in Bangladesh will return to normal very soon.
“We have received excellent cooperation from the Bangladeshi government; our High Commission has arranged for the safe and secure travel of the Indian nationals to the border crossing points or to the airports, as the case may be.
“Our High Commission and the Assistant High Commissions are operation 24×7 helplines and all our people there, the students and the Indian nationals, they can reach out to them, and they have been rendering whatever assistance that has been requested for,” the spokesperson added.
“We feel that being a close neighbour with whom we share very warm and friendly ties, we are hopeful that the situation in the country will return to normal soon,” he added.
India has maintained that the anti-quota stir in Bangladesh, which has seen widespread violence and several deaths, is an internal matter of that country.
