9 Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike on central Gaza

Gaza, July 16 (UNI) At least nine Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said Monday.

The Israeli airstrike targeted a home with a missile, destroying it and causing damage to neighboring houses, security sources told Xinhua.

The airstrike killed nine people and injured several others, all transported to the hospital, medical sources told Xinhua.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on this incident.

Also on Monday, the Hamas media office said in a statement that more than 320 Palestinians were killed or injured in the Gaza Strip in the past 48 hours due to the use of “internationally prohibited weapons by the Israeli army.”

Hamas holds the American administration fully responsible, both legally and morally, for supplying the Israeli army with these “various types of internationally prohibited weapons,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced that some Israeli soldiers were killed and injured due to the explosion of a leftover missile in two tanks in the Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood in western Gaza City.

Also on Monday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said its headquarters in Gaza has been turned into a battlefield and is now flattened.

“Another episode in the blatant disregard of international humanitarian law. United Nations facilities must be protected at all times. They must never be used for military or fighting purposes,” UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said on social media platform X.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 others were taken hostage.
