Prayagraj, Aug 21 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has fixed September 12 as the date for the next hearing on the appeals moved by the two main accused against their conviction in the sensational 17 year old Nithari case.
It may be noted that one of the main accused Surendra Koli has been awarded capital punishment by the CBI Court in Ghaziabad in more than a dozen cases. The other main accused Maninder Singh Pandher has also been sentenced to death in some cases.
While hearing the appeals, the division bench of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice SAH Rizvi asked the senior counsel for the CBI whether the medical examination report of Koli has been filed as annexure with the case file.
On this, the CBI replied positively. The court then ordered the appeals to be presented for hearing on September 12.
It may be noted that the infamous Nithari case came to fore in 2006 when decomposed bodies were recovered from the drains in sector 31 of Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The police later arrested Pandher and his domestic help Koli on charges of serial murder.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also probed the case. Later, the court awarded death sentence to both Pandher and Koli in separate cases, which was upheld by the Supreme Court.
