PM to visit and congratulate us: ISRO chief Somnath

Bengaluru, Aug 23 (UNI) Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somanath on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would personally visit and congratulate each one of Team Chandrayaan-3 for the successful soft-landing on the South Pole of the Moon.

“The PM congratulated all of us and said that he would like to personally come down and congratulate each one of us,” ISRO Chairman said in a press conference here in the city.

Somnath made these remarks when he was asked to share his conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone from Johannesburg in South Africa. He is on a visit to attend the 15th BRICS Summit.

Minutes after the ISRO Chairman announced the soft-landing of Chandrayaan-3 on Moon, Modi rang him up and said, “Somnath Ji, your name is Somnath, which is associated with the moon, and therefore your family members will also be very happy today.”

“Many many congratulations to you and your entire team from my side,” PM Modi said in the telephone conversation.

After Vikram Lander made a soft landing on the Moon, Somnath informed PM Modi, “India is on the Moon.”

The landing made India the leading country in the world in the space sector as the country became first to soft-land its Chandrayaan-3 on the South Pole of the Moon, and fourth to soft-land on the North Pole of the Moon.

Prior to India, the United States, China, and Russia have successfully landed on the moon’s surface.

Later speaking to the media, Somnath said Aditya L-1 will be the next mission which is under progress at Sriharikota.
