Warsaw, (UNI) Poland is going to bid for hosting the Summer Olympics in 2036, Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Wednesday.
“I would like to announce, after consultations that we held with the board of the Polish Olympic Committee, the sports and tourism minister, his colleagues and the government, that it is our ambition and intention to start efforts to hold the Summer Olympic Games in our country in 2036,” Duda told reporters.
The president added that he would prepare a request to International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach “in the coming days.” Duda also said that Poland had experience in organizing world-class sports events, had numerous advanced sports facilities and continued to build infrastructure, including roads.
Mexico, Indonesia and India have previously expressed interest to host the 2036 Olympics. The next Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games will be held in 2024 in Paris.
