Mandya, Oct 2 (UNI) The state government must seek opinions of legal experts and opposition parties to prepare an all-acceptable distress formula to find a permanent solution to the Cauvery water dispute, former Karnataka Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai said.
This formula should be submitted before the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Supreme Court, he said.
“The state government must hold a meeting with legal experts and arrive at a distress formula and submit it before the CWMA and Supreme Court to get an order in Karnataka’s favour,” Bommai said addressing an agitation organised by the Raitha Hitarakshana Samithi here.
The state government has not handled the Cauvery water dispute from the very beginning, and it should present ground realities existing in the state to get a favourable order, the Senior BJP leader said.
The pro-Kannada outfits and farmers have been protesting against the state government for releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. They have also observed two bandhs last week in this regard.
