Kolkata, Nov 13 (UNI) Unidentified miscreants on Monday gunned down a local Trinamool Congress leader at Joynagar in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.
The incident triggered violent reaction and an irate mob lynched a person suspecting him to be the killer, according to eyewitnesses.
The leader, Saifuddin Laskar, a party area president at Joynagar, was shot dead near his residence.
A posse of police force rushed to the spot to pacify the mob and bring the situation under control.
Tension was running high.
