Vibrant celebrations mark Guru Nanak Jayanti in city

Sikh community in Bhopal comes together to honor Guru Nanak’s teachings
 
Bhopal: Guru Nanak Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, was celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm in Bhopal on Monday. The Sikh community gathered to commemorate the teachings and philosophy of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also participated in Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations and offered prayers along with his wife.

The Guru Nanak Jayanti was celebrated in the City of Lakes with kirtan, paath and langar at the two major gurdwaras of Bhopal. The festival, which is celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartik month, commemorates the birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion.

The morning prayers ‘Asa’ were offered at 6 am, followed by the conclusion of the 48-hour long akhand path. After the culmination of the Path, devotees had breakfast and took part in kirtan. The langars were held at many places, allowing thousands of people of the city from all walks of life to have the prasad and seek blessings of the gurus.

Bhandaras were also organised at gurdwaras in Piplani, Nanaksar Hamidia Road, Gurunanakpura and Kokta Transport Nagar.

The celebrations kicked off with a Nagar Kirtan, a religious procession, which commenced from Nanaksar Hamidia Road and traversed through the city streets, resonating with devotional hymns and prayers. The procession was marked by colorful decorations, traditional attire, and the waving of Sikh flags, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.

Upon returning the Nanaksar Hamidia Road special prayers were held, and the holy scripture, Guru Granth Sahib, was recited by the Granthis. The devotees participated in the Langar, a community kitchen, where free meals were served to everyone, irrespective of their background, as a symbol of equality and community service.

Cultural programs, kirtan recitals held

Various cultural programs and kirtan recitals were organized in the Gurudwara premises, showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of Sikhism. Members of the Sikh community, as well as residents from different backgrounds, came together to celebrate the values of love, compassion, and equality promoted by Guru Nanak.

Local leaders and dignitaries extended their greetings on the occasion, emphasizing the significance of Guru Nanak’s teachings in fostering unity and understanding among diverse communities.

The Guru Nanak Jayanti celebration in Bhopal served as a moment of unity and harmony, bringing people together to honor the revered Sikh Guru and reflect on his timeless teachings.
