Inter-state notorious gang changed over 100 ATM cards

Accused looted people, 3 held in Morena

Bhopal: On Friday, police in Morena successfully dismantled an inter-state gang involved in fraudulent activities, arresting three individuals for illicitly withdrawing cash using counterfeit ATM cards. The police confiscated 150 ATM cards, POS machines, and Rs 7.5 lakh in cash from the apprehended suspects.

The modus operandi of these fraudsters involved surreptitiously substituting ATM cards during cash withdrawals and using POS machines to extract substantial sums from bank accounts in a single transaction. The arrested individuals are now in police custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them.

Youth reported that his ATM card was changed

The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a youth who reported that his ATM card was changed without his knowledge during a recent cash withdrawal, leading to unauthorized transactions from his account. Responding to the gravity of the situation, the police launched a thorough inquiry into the gang’s activities.

Inter-state criminal syndicate was operating

Utilizing technical means, the police discovered that this was not an isolated incident but rather part of a broader pattern perpetrated by an inter-state criminal syndicate. Acting on a tip-off received from an informant, the police intercepted the gang members near Chhaunda Toll Plaza as they were reportedly en route to Gwalior in a four-wheeler.

The three individuals apprehended during the raid were identified as Dharmendra Saas and Ashok Saas from Haryana, and Dharmendra Thakur from Delhi. The police interrogated them, leading to revelations about their involvement in similar fraudulent activities in Datia, Sagar, Narsinghpur, Mandla, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The arrested individuals have been formally charged, and they are currently in custody. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend other associates of the criminal gang. Shailendra Singh Chauhan, the Superintendent of Police, confirmed the successful operation and highlighted the meticulous approach employed by the criminals in changing ATM cards discreetly to exploit the withdrawal limit, necessitating the use of POS machines for large-scale unauthorized transactions.
