Got more than one lakh votes but lost

This time in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, there were 9 such candidates who got more than one lakh votes, but even after this they could not win. There were about a dozen such candidates who had to face defeat even after getting around 95 thousand votes.

The most important name among the candidates who lost despite getting the maximum votes in Madhya Pradesh was that of Congress candidate Satyanarayan Patel from Indore 5 assembly constituency. Patel received 1 lakh 29 thousand 62 votes, yet he lost to Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Mahendra Hardiya. Hardiya got 1 lakh 44 thousand 733 votes. The second name was that of former minister and Congress candidate Jitu Patwari from Rau assembly of Indore district. Despite getting 1 lakh 16 thousand 150 votes, Patwari had to face defeat from BJP candidate Madhu Verma by about 35 thousand votes. Indore 1 Congress candidate Sanjay Shukla also had more or less the same situation. He was defeated by senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya. Kailash Vijayvargiya got one lakh 58 thousand 128 votes, while Sanjay Shukla got one lakh 184 votes. BJP candidate Yashpal Singh Sisodia, who has been a continuous MLA from Mandsaur, could not win even after securing 1 lakh 3 thousand 267 votes. His rival Congress candidate Vipin Jain got about two thousand votes more than him. Congress candidate Kamal Singh Chauhan from Ashta got 1 lakh 10 thousand 847 votes, but compared to him, his opponent BJP candidate Gopal Singh Engineer got almost eight thousand more votes and he was assured of victory. Congress candidate from Suwasra Rakesh Patidar (one lakh one thousand 626 votes), BJP candidate from Sendhwa Antar Singh Arya (one lakh four thousand 459), Congress candidate from Sohagpur Pushparaj Singh (one lakh one thousand 617) and BJP candidate from Thandla Kalsingh Bhabar could not win even after getting (one lakh three thousand 857) votes.

More or less the same was the situation of former minister in Kamal Nath government and Congress candidate from Shajapur, Hukum Singh Karada. He received about 99 thousand votes, yet he lost to BJP candidate Arun Bhimavad by only 28 votes. Congress candidate Manoj Shukla from Bhopal’s Narela Assembly also got about 99 thousand votes, but he was defeated by Minister Vishwas Sarang. Similarly, Congress candidate from Lanji, Hina Likhiram Kanvre could not win even after getting around 99 thousand votes. Kamal Patel, who was a minister in the BJP government, got about 94 thousand votes, but he lost to the Congress candidate by only 890 votes.
