Mumbai, Feb 3 (UNI) One day following the startling, poignant, and dramatic PR prank that purported actor-model Poonam Pandey had passed away from cervical cancer, the controversial 32-year-old issued a denial, stating that she was still alive.
Poonam released a video statement on the matter.
“I’m still here. It was not cervical cancer that killed me. Regretfully, I am unable to make the same statement regarding the thousands upon thousands of women who have lost their lives to cervical cancer. It’s not that they were powerless to stop it; rather, it’s that they were clueless about what to do. I’m here to tell you that cervical cancer is avoidable, in contrast to other malignancies. All that is required of you is to be tested and to receive the HPV vaccination,” Poonam stated in a video message that was posted on Instagram on Saturday.
The announcement stunned the whole industry, and other coworkers and close friends came out to say they had no idea she had a disease and that, as of a few days ago, she was well.
Her death was confirmed by two announcements on Friday.
“This morning is a tough one for us. I am deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living being that ever came into contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared,” said a statement on her official Instagram account.
The Cine & TV Artists’ Association (CINTAA) also condoled her death. “CINTAA expresses its condolences on the demise of Poonam Pandey,” the apex body of artists posted on X.
She starred in Bigg Boss (2011) before making her Bollywood debut in “Nasha” in 2013. She has since been in several additional films and TV shows, including “GST: Galti Sirf Tumhari” (2017).
She was well-liked on social media and is renowned for her audacious remarks and deeds.
She made headlines in 2011 when she said she would undress for the Indian cricket team if they won the World Cup, and she has since repeated such daredevilry on several more occasions.
Poonam short-term wed director Sam Bombay in 2020 amid the COVID-19 epidemic, but not long afterward, she accused him of abusing her domestically.
