Lucknow, May 25 (UNI) An estimated 52.02 percent of over 2.7 crore electorate exercised their franchise across 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the sixth phase of the election in Uttar Pradesh till 5 pm on Saturday, a senior poll official said.
According to the data of the Election Commission, a maximum 59.52 percent votes were polled in Ambedkar Nagar till 5 pm, whereas minimum 46.8 percent turnout was recorded in Phulpur amid tight security arrangements.
Azamgarh polled 54.2 percent, Allahabad (49.3), Basti (55.03), Bhadohi (50.67), Domariyaganj (50.62), Jaunpur (52.65), Lalganj (52.86), Machhlishahr (52.1), Pratapgarh (49.65), Sant Kabir Nagar (51.11), Shrawasti (50.71) and 53.6 percent in Sultanpur.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa said that the polling in these 14 Parliamentary Constituencies which started at 7 am will continue till 6 pm. He said that besides 14 Lok Sabha seats, by-poll for Gainsari assembly seat in Balrampur district, which fell vacant due to the demise of sitting SP MLA Dr SP Yadav, is also being held.
Of the constituencies voting today, 12 seats are general category and two are reserved for scheduled castes. These seats are spread across 15 districts of Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Ambedkar Nagar, Ayodhya, Balrampur, Shravasti, Siddharth Nagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Varanasi and Bhadohi.
The CEO said over 2.7 crore voters include 1.43 crore male and 1.27 crore female, will decide the fate of 162 candidates comprising 146 male and 16 female. “The polling is being held at 28,171 polling booths spread over 17,113 polling stations,” he said.
