Rome, June 22 (UNI) Bodies of 14 migrants were recovered in the Ionian Sea off the southern coast of Italy, which brings the total death toll from this week’s refugee shipwreck to 34, Italian news media reported on Saturday, citing coastal guard services.
Earlier, Italian media outlets reported that at least 20 people were confirmed dead in the accident, with eight of them being minors.
On Tuesday, a sailing boat with refugees on board wrecked 120 miles off the coast of Italy’s Calabria region. Eleven people were rescued by one of the non-governmental organizations which carries out rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea. There was a total of 66 refugees on the wrecked boat with 26 kids among them, the rescued people told the NGO.
