Paris, July 28 (UNI) The City of Lights played host to a high-stakes duel on Sunday as India’s Ramita Jindal set her sights on Olympic glory in the Women’s 10m air rifle event. With nerves of steel and the precision of a seasoned markswoman, Jindal secured her place in the final with a fifth-place finish, notching a commendable score of 631.5.
Her remarkable feat echoes the triumphs of her past, including two medals at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
However, the path to glory is often fraught with near-misses and heartbreaks. Elavenil Valarivan, Jindal’s compatriot, battled fiercely but fell short by a whisper-thin margin.
With a score of 630.7, Valarivan’s hopes were dashed in the final series, placing her tenth and just outside the coveted top eight who will compete for the ultimate prize on Monday, July 29.
India’s shooting contingent has faced a series of near-misses at these Games, adding a layer of poignancy to their quest for medals.
Sarabjot Singh, along with the dynamic duo of Jindal and Arjun Babuta, experienced the sting of narrowly missing the mark on the opening day. The saga continued with Valarivan and Jindal falling short in the mixed team event just a day earlier, though their individual performances brought a glimmer of hope.
As the dust settles on Sunday’s dramatic events, the anticipation builds for what lies ahead.
