New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday commended the Defence Forces for undertaking the rescue operations in the landslides hit district of Wayanad in Kerala and requested the government to support the people with as much assistance as possible during the challenging time.
Participating in a calling attention motion, Gandhi said, “It is a huge tragedy in Wayanad, and the Military is doing a commendable job there. I think it’s essential that we support the people of Wayanad and provide them with as much assistance as possible. I request the government to help the people of Wayanad during this challenging time”.
He said that this was the second time that such a tragedy has occurred. Five years ago such an incident had happened, and “It is clear that this area has an ecological issue”.
“Therefore, this should be investigated, and whatever high-tech solutions are available should be implemented,” the Raebareli MP said.
Participating in the discussion, Congress’ KC Venugopal said that there is a horrifying situation in the areas. Bodies were seen floating in the water. Entire village has perished.
“I am glad that the Government has accepted this notice. I urge the government to come to the rescue of the people. As per report, more than 150 people have lost their lives and hundreds are missing,” Venugopal said.
