Bhopal: “National Eye Donation Fortnight” is being observed at AIIMS Bhopal from 25 August to 8 September 2024. This annual campaign aims to spread awareness about the importance of eye donation and motivate people to donate their eyes after death. Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal said, “Eye donation is the greatest donation. It brightens another person’s life, giving a new light. At AIIMS Bhopal, we are committed not only to provide world-class eye care services but also to educate the public about the importance of eye donation. I urge everyone to pledge to donate their eyes and contribute to this life-changing act. Together, we can make a significant impact in this fight against blindness. AIIMS Bhopal has corneal transplant services and a fully functional eye bank, where advanced procedures like lamellar corneal transplant are performed, in which only the affected corneal layer is replaced, leading to better clinical outcomes.”
Dr. Bhavna Sharma, Professor and Head, Department of Ophthalmology, AIIMS Bhopal, emphasised on the importance of eye donation and said, “We all should come forward and extend our full support to this important cause of eye donation and spread awareness about it. We hope to spread awareness about eye donation and dispel myths prevalent in the society during the ‘Netradaan Pakhwada’, which is the need of the hour,” she said.
During the fortnight, various activities are being organised to promote eye donation which include display of posters and banners on eye donation, health talks, taking oath for eye donation, eye check-up in rural areas and eye donation awareness programmes.
