New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) India today said that the Qatari authorities have handed over to the Indian Embassy in Doha two Sri Guru Granth Sahibs taken from an Indian national in a case related to running a religious establishment without approvals, and thanked the Qatar government for it.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs also appealed to Indian citizens in Qatar or other countries to “scrupulously follow local laws and regulations in all matters”.
On Aug 23, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that the Indian government has taken up with Qatar the matter related to the release of the Guru Granth Sahib seized by the Qatari authorities.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement then that “two Swaroops of Guru Granth Sahib were taken by Qatar authorities from two individuals/groups who were charged for running religious establishment without approval of Government of Qatar. Our Embassy rendered all possible assistance within the ambit of local laws and regulations.
“One Swaroop of the Holy Book was returned by Qatari authorities and it was assured that the other Swaroop is also kept with respect.
“We continue to follow up the matter with Qatar authorities with high priority and hope for early resolution,” the MEA said on Aug 23.
