Bengaluru, Sep 24 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday ramped up its demand for the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following the High Court’s decision upholding a sanction given by the Governor for the Congress leader’s prosecution in the MUDA scam.
Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa stated, “The judgment clearly indicates that the CM and his family are involved in the scam. We have been demanding his resignation for the last two months, and I hope Siddaramaiah respects the High Court’s verdict.”
The controversy surrounds alleged irregularities concerning the allotment of 14 Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) sites to his wife.
The scam has fuelled intense political discourse in the state, with Vijayendra pointing to Governor Taawarchand Gehlot’s involvement and asserting that Siddaramaiah’s family stands to benefit from the alleged corruption. “We undertook a padyatra from Bengaluru to Mysuru demanding the resignation of the corrupt Chief Minister,” he added.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla questioned Siddaramaiah’s leadership. “The Congress party must explain whether it is tenable for CM Siddaramaiah to continue after the High Court’s verdict.”
He looted land meant for the SC/ST community, amounting to Rs 5,000 crore. Family and friends of Siddaramaiah benefitted. Will Rahul Gandhi take action on the ‘bhrashtachar ki dukaan’ (corruption’s shop)? he asked.
Meanwhile, Advocate Ranganath Reddy, representing complainant T J Abraham, confirmed that the High Court dismissed a writ petition challenging the Governor’s approval.
Reddy noted that the facts in the complaint warranted investigation, stating, “The act of the complainant seeking approval from the Governor is lawful, and the sanction granted is upheld by the High Court.”
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has decided to appeal against the High Court decision.
