PM Modi receives blessings from Buddhist monks in Vientiane, watches Lao Ramayana

Vientiane/New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Laos capital to an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian diaspora. PM Modi participated in a blessing ceremony by senior Buddhist monks and later watched an episode of Lao Ramayana.

PM Modi is in Vientiane to participate in the 21st Asean-India and the 19th East Asia Summit.

In a post on X, the PM said of the enthusiastic welcome he received:

“The welcome in Lao PDR was memorable! The Indian community is clearly very connected with their roots. Also gladdening was the local people speaking in Hindi and doing a Bihu dance!“

On his meeting with the Buddhist monks he posted:

“Met respected monks and spiritual leaders in Lao PDR, who were happy to see the honour being given to Pali by the Indian people. I am grateful to them for their blessings.”

He also witnessed an exhibition on the restoration and conservation of Vat Phou temple complex being executed by the Archaeological Survey of India in Laos.

The PM posted:

“India is proud to be working closely with Lao PDR on conserving and restoring various heritage sites including the Vat Phou complex.”

The MEA spokesperson posted:

“Vat Phou: a symbol of India-Laos close civilizational ties and heritage.

“Archaeological Survey of India has been undertaking exceptional work for restoration and conservation of Vat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Laos.”

On the PM witnessing an episode of the Lao Ramayana, the MEA spokesperson posted:

“Shared heritage and tradition bringing the two countries closer.

“PM @narendramodi witnessed an episode of Lao Ramayana (called Phalak Phalam or Phra Lak Phra Ram), performed by the prestigious Royal Theatre of Luang Prabang.

“The performance was an exquisite display of India-Laos rich and shared linkages.”

Earlier, the PM arrived in Vientiane to a ceremonial Guard of Honour. He was welcomed by the Laos Minister of Home Affairs Vilayvong Bouddakham.

The PM said in a post:

“Landed in Lao PDR. Looking forward to the deliberations with various world leaders.”
