New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) To reduce air pollution, the Delhi government has banned firecrackers till January 1, 2025, making bursting, production, storage and sale of these items illegal in the national capital.
A notification from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee stated, “Delhi government has decided to impose a complete ban on manufacturing, storage, and selling (including delivery through online marketing platforms) of all kinds of firecrackers and bursting there of up to January 1, 2025.”
Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Monday that it is well known that the use of firecrackers has a very bad effect on air quality. Our goal behind the decision to ban firecrackers is to ensure that Delhi’s air remains breathable. This ban will also be strictly applicable to the sale of firecrackers through online platforms.
He said that Delhi has faced extreme pollution in winter in recent years. The government must take every possible step to protect the health of its citizens. The government appeals to the people of Delhi for cooperation and support in this collective fight against pollution, he said.
The Delhi Police has been entrusted with the responsibility of strictly enforcing the complete ban on firecrackers. The police will have to submit a daily report to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
This initiative is an important step in the long-term strategy to improve air quality in Delhi.
