Cong not to contest UP by-polls, vows to support INDIA bloc candidates

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) The Congress on Thursday said it will not field any candidate for the upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh but will support candidates of the INDI alliance.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Avinash Pande said, “By-elections are going to be held on 9 out of 10 vacant seats in Uttar Pradesh. But today is not the time to save one’s organisation or party, this is the time to protect the Constitution and brotherhood.”

“Keeping this in mind, the top leadership of Congress has decided that the party will not field its candidates in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections. We will continue to strive for the victory of the INDIA alliance candidates,” Pande said.

He said that recently, under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), ‘Save Constitution Resolution Conference’ was organised in all the 10 assembly constituencies.

“If BJP is not stopped today, then the Constitution, brotherhood and mutual harmony will weaken in the times to come. Uttar Pradesh Congress workers have resolved to give a crushing defeat to the BJP in these elections, so that there is a positive impact for the upcoming 2027 elections,” Pande said.

He asserted that all the candidates of INDI alliance in the state will get the support of Congress workers and efforts will be made to ensure their victory.
