Patna, (UNI) Noted folk singer Sharda Sinha died after prolonged illness on Tuesday night.
She was 72.
Sinha, who was undergoing treatment at the All-India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, died despite the best efforts made by attending doctors to save her life. In her long career as a singer, she had sung songs on the Chhath festival and other folk songs, relished in Bihar and other parts of the country besides abroad.
She had also sang songs for a number of Hindi and Bhojpuri films.
For her distinguished contribution to the art and culture arena, Sinha was felicitated with the Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India. Her son Anshu said that she had improved after treatment.
but condition suddenly deteriorated on Monday and was shifted to ICU. She was on a ventilator and other life support system when she breathed her last. Fans of Sinha all across the country expressed deep shock over her death.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, former Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, and former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishor Prasad were among a number of dignitaries who condoled the death of Sharda Sinha. People from all walks of life also condoled the death of noted singer.
