Deoband praises SC decision on Madrasa Board

Saharanpur (UP), Nov 6 (UNI) Darul Uloom Deoband, the centre of Islamic education, on Wednesday praised the Supreme Court decision to validate the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Board Act.

Member of Majlis-e-Sura of Darul Uloom Deoband and former MP Mahmood Madani said that this decision brought relief to 17 lakh madrasa students of Uttar Pradesh.

He said that this decision of the court has brought happiness to Muslims and people associated with madrasas. “It is expected that the negative campaign being run against madrasas will stop,” he said.

Madrasa Darul Uloom Asrafia Mohtamimam Maulana Ashraf Qasmi welcomed the decision of the SC and said that this decision has made Muslims proud.

Maulana Qari Mustafa, and Mufti Arshad Farooqui also praised the SC. But the Supreme Court has refused to recognise the degrees of Fazil and Kamil awarded by madrasas. The SC said that Fazil and Kamil degrees are unconstitutional and against the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act.

Around 23,500 madrasas in UP will benefit from this decision where 17 lakh students are pursuing education. The UP Madarsa Board was formed in 2004 to manage madrasas. 560 madrasas receive aid from the state government and 7,000 madrasas run with their resources without any aid.
