Mumbai, Nov 12 (UNI) Extending losses for the fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, the BSE Sensex tanked 820.97 pts to settle at 78,675.18 as heavy selling was witnessed in Power, Utilities, and Industrial stocks amid foreign outflows.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 257.85 pts at 23,883.45.
The Nifty registered days high and low at 24,242 and 23,839.15 pts, respectively.
High volatility was seen during the day as the sensex opened in green at 79,644.95, rising 148 pts. It rallied 324 points at 79,820.98, days high.
In late trade it erased earlier gains and nosedived 949 pts at 78,547.82, days low, before closing at 78,675.18, tumbling down 820.87 pts from its previous close.
The stocks that kept the market under pressure were power by 2.79 pc, utilities by 2.20 pc, BSE services by 1.88 pc, and industrials by 1.82 pc.
The midcap fell 0.98 pc, while the small cap rose by 0.26 pc.
In 30 scrips, 3 advanced, while 27 declined.
The losers were NTPC by 3.06 pc to Rs 380.45, Asian Paints by 2.79 pc to Rs 2471.80, HDFC Bank by 2.75 pc to Rs 1718, SBI by 2.57 pc to Rs 826, and Tata Motors by 2.44 pc to Rs 785.15.
The gainers were Sun Pharma by 0.28 pc to Rs 1800, Infosys by 0.06 pc to Rs 1861.10, and ICICI Bank by 0.04 pc to Rs 1269.60.
