Panic buttons not working in 53% vehicles

  • For self-protection, RTO gives instructions to install panic buttons in vehicles, out of 45 thousand vehicles in capital, only 5000 vehicles have installed

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
Most of the panic buttons installed inside public vehicles including cabs in the capital are not working. This shows how serious the administration is about the safety of women in the city.

The police department is also not paying attention in this direction. It should be noted that two years ago, the central government had made it mandatory to install panic buttons in cabs and vehicles used for public transport. The responsibility of implementing this was given to the Regional Transport Office RTO of Bhopal, but the RTO is sitting quietly after issuing guidelines on paper.

Recently, a woman shared information about the panic button not working in the cab on social media in the capital. She had requested the administration to follow these instructions. These irregularities came to light when she hires cabs to go to work and from office to home every day. But the cab operators hide the information about the panic button not working from the passengers. Rashmi, a young woman living in Semra of Ashoka Garden in the capital, goes to work in a private company in MP Nagar every day from her home.

RTO said – will get it checked immediately

Bhopal RTO officer Jitendra Sharma said that he will get all the irregularities investigated immediately. The panic button has to be recharged from time to time so that it can continue to work. If the driver does not do this, then the cab being driven by him disappears from the radar and cannot be tracked.

This is how the panic button helps
–       The passenger can ask for help by pressing the button in case of any kind of trouble.
–       The alert reaches the control room by pressing the panic button for three seconds.
–       The alert message will also go to the mobile of the bus or cab management.
–       The manager operation gets information about the location from the driver-conductors.
–       Whatever kind of help is needed, the team will reach the spot.
–       It has also been linked to the Emergency Response Support System i.e. 112.
