Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to produce spice crops. In the year 2023-24, the farmers of the state sowed spice crops in a record 8 lakh 32 thousand 419 hectares and produced more than 54 lakh tonnes of spice crops, which is a record.
The Department of Horticulture and Food Processing is specially motivating farmers to adopt horticulture crops along with agriculture. As a result, last year, 13 thousand 110 hectare horticultural crops were expanded in the state and a grant of Rs 44 crore 85 lakh was provided to 42,730 farmers.
With the increasing demand for spice crops, turmeric, garlic, green and red chili, ginger, coriander, fenugreek, cumin, and fennel crops in the market, farmers are also getting attracted towards their production. In the last four years, the production of spice crops has increased by 2 lakh 16 thousand metric tons.
