New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Leaders of India bloc parties from Manipur on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state that has been in turmoil for around two years.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, K Meghachandra Singh, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Kshetrimayum Shanta, convenor of 10 political parties, said his “pro-active engagement with the people of the state can only bring peace and normalcy in Manipur”.
“The people of Manipur have been eagerly waiting for your presence in the state to place their voices of helplessness to you since the 3rd of May, 2023,” Singh said.
He said due to the turmoil, hundreds of people have lost their lives and around a lakh have been internally displaced. Moreover, “the continued violence has further escalated the turmoil with unprecedented pain, trauma, fear and complete helplessness among the people of Manipur”.
The Manipur MLA also requested the PM to invite all political parties from Manipur to Delhi, if he cannot visit the state before the yearend.
The leaders from 10 political parties said, “We, therefore, humbly, plead for your visit to the state, at the earliest; as your visit, for the sake of humanity, would be of great strength in restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. The people of Manipur are longing to meet you on the soil of Manipur”.
