Tan Kim Her returns as national team coach

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) The Badminton Association of India (BAI), on Wednesday, reappointed Malaysian doubles specialist Tan Kim Her to work with the national team, marking his second stint in the country.

Renowned for pairing Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy during his initial tenure, Tan will focus on strengthening doubles partnerships and preparing India for the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

After a successful tenure with Japanese men’s doubles teams since 2019, Tan has returned to build on his previous accomplishments in India. Having already arrived in Hyderabad, he has commenced training sessions with the national team.

“We had been looking for quality foreign coaches who could work with our current top players and also guide our next-generation players as we prepare for the 2028 Olympics,” said BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra. “Finding the right coach took time, but we were determined to bring in those who can develop our badminton stars and build a strong pipeline of talent for the future.”

Expressing his enthusiasm, Tan said, “Iam very happy to be back in India and get a chance to work with Satwik-Chirag and the young, talented doubles players who have the potential to follow in their footsteps. I look forward to creating a bigger group of doubles combinations capable of winning tournaments on the world stage.”

Tan’s expertise is expected to provide a significant boost to India’s doubles game, with a focus on consistency and expanding the talent pool. The badminton fraternity is optimistic about his role in nurturing future champions.
