- Day Two of MP Assembly Winter Session
Bhopal, The Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s winter session witnessed significant ruckus on its second day as well. The Congress, continuing its aggressive stance, staged a unique protest against the state government. The Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar, led the demonstration by holding a bowl in his hand at the assembly premises, symbolizing the government’s growing dependence on loans. Several Congress MLAs joined him, also holding bowls as a mark of protest.
Focus on State Debt and Farmers’ Issues
Umang Singhar cornered the BJP-led state government, highlighting issues like increasing debt and the plight of farmers. He demanded that the government issue a white paper to clarify how the borrowed funds are being utilized. According to Singhar, the mounting debt is a sign of mismanagement, and he accused the ruling party of prioritizing funds for its own MLAs while neglecting Congress constituencies.
He further criticized the BJP for factionalism, claiming: “There is a lot of factionalism in the BJP, and their organization is on the verge of disintegration.”
Additionally, Singhar alleged that Congress MLAs are being denied development funds, while BJP MLAs are being favored for political gains.
Cong’s Protest Draws Reactions
The opposition’s bowl protest gained traction on social media when Umang Singhar shared a video of the demonstration. In his caption, he accused the BJP government of burdening Madhya Pradesh with excessive debt, comparing their financial policies to “begging with a bowl in hand.”
However, BJP leaders were quick to hit back. BJP MLA Ashish Sharma dismissed Congress’s accusations, stating: “The government is taking loans as per the rules, and financial management has actually improved under the BJP.”
Sharma further criticized the Congress protest, attributing it to internal party dynamics: “Congress leaders stage such protests to increase their numbers and show their strength to the high command.”
