Punjab: 20 passengers injured as private bus overturns in fields

Chandigarh, Dec 25 (UNI) As many as 20 passengers were injured when a private bus overturned in fields near Kurala village on the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway on Wednesday.

According to Station House Officer of Tanda police station, Inspector Gurwinderjit Singh, nine injured passengers were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya, while 11 were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Tanda for treatment.

The four critically injured passengers Vipan Kumar (36) of Amb (Himachal Pradesh), Rishu (29)

of Pandori Araiyan, Shanti Devi (65) of Kairo Bhushan, and Surinder Kaur (53) of Ludhiana were referred to the Government Hospital in Hoshiarpur from the Civil Hospital in Dasuya. Some of the injured were discharged after receiving first aid at CHC, Tanda.

The bus was proceeding from Pathankot to Jalandhar.

Preliminary investigation suggest that the bus overturned due to overspeeding, as the driver lost control of the vehicle near village Kurala, Gurwinderjit Singh said, adding that further investigation is underway.
