New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) Renowned fast bowler Varun Aaron on Friday announced his retirement from representative cricket, marking the end of a stellar two-decade-long career.
Taking to social media, Varun expressed his gratitude towards the sport that has defined his life.
“For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast,” Varun wrote on his Instagram page. “Today, with immense gratitude, I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket.”
Reflecting on his illustrious journey, Varun shared that fast bowling had been a deep passion for him.
“As I bid farewell to a pursuit that has consumed me completely, I now look forward to savouring the smaller joys in life while staying deeply connected to the game that has given me everything,” he added.
Varun’s decision to retire brings an end to a career where his fast deliveries captivated fans worldwide. Despite stepping off the field, the bowler emphasised that fast bowling would always remain a part of who he is.
His departure marks the end of an era in cricket, leaving behind memories of thrilling performances and an indelible mark on the sport.
Varun’s cricketing legacy is underscored by his impressive achievements in both first-class and List A formats. He took 173 wickets in 66 first-class games at an average of 33.27, and claimed 141 wickets in List A matches at 26.47.
Varun’s versatility and pace also saw him enjoy a successful stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he featured for five different franchises—Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans.
He capped off his IPL career by winning the title with Gujarat Titans in 2022, his final season in the league.
