Rail Minister approves 31 new railway projects for Madhya Pradesh

  • Massive investment in infrastructure development

In a significant development for Madhya Pradesh, Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the approval of 31 new railway projects under the 2025-26 railway budget. Addressing a video conference in Bhopal, Vaishnaw revealed that these projects span a total of 5,869 kilometers, with a proposed investment of Rs 1.04 lakh crore. This substantial funding will expand and modernize the state’s railway network, ensuring improved connectivity across the region.

80 Stations to be developed under ‘Amrit Station’ scheme

One of the key highlights of the budget is the transformation of 80 railway stations across the state, which will be developed as “Amrit Stations.” These stations will receive a combined investment of Rs 2,708 crore, offering better facilities for passengers. Prominent stations such as Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, and Ujjain are set to benefit from this initiative, aimed at enhancing passenger experience and improving the state’s rail infrastructure.

Revamping major stations

Several major stations, including Rani Kamalapati, Gwalior, Khajuraho, and Satna, will undergo redevelopment at an estimated cost of Rs 1,950 crore. These projects are expected to significantly enhance station facilities and improve safety for travelers.

Enhanced safety measures and electrification

Under the “Kavach” technology, 3,572 kilometers of railway tracks across the state will be equipped with safety features to prevent accidents, ensuring safer train operations. In addition, Madhya Pradesh has achieved a major milestone with 100% electrification of its railway network, covering 2,808 kilometers. The state has also seen the construction of 2,456 kilometers of new tracks, equating to the entire rail network of Denmark.

Vande Bharat Express trains and modern amenities

Four Vande Bharat Express trains have been introduced, connecting 14 districts and offering 18 unique stopovers. Furthermore, 69 lifts, 41 escalators, and Wi-Fi facilities have been installed at 408 stations to improve passenger convenience and comfort.

Employment and economic growth opportunities

According to Senior Division Commercial Manager, Saurabh Kataria, the budget will not only expand the railway network but also create new job opportunities across the state. The modernization of the railway system and the enhancement of passenger amenities will contribute significantly to Madhya Pradesh’s economic growth, opening doors for new employment avenues.
