New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Replying to the discussion on Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on the Congress party and highlighted the achievements of his government.
Following his reply, the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address was adopted by the Upper House. The amendments moved by the Opposition members were negated by voice vote.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar then adjourned the House for the day to meet on Friday (February 6, 2024).
During his nearly 2-hour speech, Modi attacked Congress left, right and centre blaming its policies for slow economic growth in the past.
“The Congress party had created a model of politics which was a mix of lies, deception, corruption, nepotism and appeasement,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that while it was Family First for the Congress, his government has been following the principle of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’.
“Our model, unlike Congress, is not appeasement but satisfaction,” he said.
In his scathing attack on the Congress, Modi said that the grand old party’s identity was ‘licence raj’ and today’s youth must know the kind of difficulties their parents faced during Congress rule when even buying cement for building houses, purchasing cars or gas cylinders required prior permission.
The Prime Minister took a dig at the Opposition and said that today efforts are being made to spread the poison of casteism.
He said that his government was focussing on strengthening infrastructure across the country for making India a developed nation.
The PM also mentioned the proposal in the Budget to make annual income upto Rs 12 lakh tax free noting that the middle class is today confident and determined to drive India’s journey towards development.
Talking about his government’s success, Modi said that as many as 25 crore people of the country have moved out of poverty and become part of the neo middle class.
“Today, their aspirations are the strongest foundation for the nation’s progress,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that his government is empowering the tribal communities with the PM-JANMAN scheme.
“There are many tribal groups whose numbers are very small and they are scattered in 200-300 places. They were so neglected that it is heart-wrenching to know those details. The government has made policies and brought schemes aimed at their welfare. The PM-JANMAN scheme of Rs 24,000 crore was brought for these people,” Modi said in Rajya Sabha.
He said that the government had prioritised the welfare of the poor and marginalised and added, “Modi worships those who were neglected by others and never cared for.”
“The people of the country have understood, tested and supported our model of development,” the PM said.
Modi said that the world is today recognising India’s economic potential.
