New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced that former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi will be the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
She is the first woman Leader of Opposition in the House.
The announcement was made by AAP’s Delhi state President Gopal Rai today. He said that today a meeting of the AAP Legislature Party was held in which the MLAs unanimously elected Atishi as the Leader of Opposition.
Rai said that Atishi has served as the Chief Minister of Delhi very well. As the Leader of Opposition, she will have the responsibility of protecting the work done by the Kejriwal government and fulfilling the promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the people.
“I thank the party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal and all the MLAs who have made me the Leader of Opposition. Whatever promises the BJP made, as the opposition, we will fulfill the responsibility of fulfilling all those promises,” he said. “The people of Delhi have given us the role of opposition, and as a strong opposition, we will ensure that the BJP government fulfils all the promises it made to Delhiites,” she said. During the election, Modi ji had guaranteed to give 2500 rupees a month to all the women of Delhi. We will definitely get the BJP government to fulfill this promise,” she said. AAP will raise the issues of the people with full force in the House. The fight for the rights of Delhi and Delhiites will continue. “
