Inayat-Rouf pair win doubles title of J&K UT Veterans Lawn Tennis Championship at Jammu

Jammu, Feb 23 (UNI) The pair of Inayat Jahangir and Rouf Ahmad on Sunday smashed out Sajjad Bhat and Vikram Gupta to lift doubles title in the Jammu and Kashmir UT Veterans Lawn Tennis Championship here at Maulana Azad Stadium.

As per the results available, in doubles final, Inayat Jahangir and Rouf Ahmad beat Sajjad Bhat and Vikram Gupta in a well contested match 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Meanwhile for singles title, Amar Jyoti Sharma to meet Vikram Gupta on Monday.

In the semifinals, Amar Jyoti Sharma beat Rouf Ahmad 8-4 and Vikram Gupta beat Inayat Jahangir 8-3.

Earlier in the day, in doubles, pair of Sajjad Bhat and Vikram Gupta beat Inayat Jahangir and Rouf Ahmad in the round robin contest, Inayat Jahangir and Rouf Ahmad beat Rakesh Kumar and Sanjeev Rohmetra, Gurneet Singh and Mir Jameel beat Pankaj Dwivedi and Kuljeet Singh, Amar Jyoti and Dilbagh Singh beat Mir Jameel and Gurmeet Singh in the Quarter-Finals.

In semifinals, pair of Sajjad Bhat and Vikram Gupta beat Mir Jameel and Gurmeet Singh and a pair of Inayat Jahangir and Rouf Ahmad beat Amar Jyoti Sharma and Dilbagh Singh.

However, in singles (round robin matches), Dilbagh Singh beat Rakesh Kumar, Rouf Ahmed beat Sajjad Bhat, Inayat Jahangir beat Mir Jameel, Amar Jyoti Sharma beat Gumeet Singh, Inayat Jahangir beat Ajay Kumar, Mir Jameel beat Ajay Kumar, Gurmeet Singh beat Dr Vikram Singh, Vikram Gupta beat Dilbagh Singh and Rouf Ahmad beat Sanjeev Rohmetra.

The three-day Veterans Lawn Tennis Tournament commenced on Friday.

The Tournament is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association (JKLTA) under the aegis of J&K Sports Council and the leadership of B S Jaggi, General Secretary JKLTA.

The tournament attracted senior players from across the Jammu and Kashmir, who are participating enthusiastically in the event.

The tournament, as per the officials is specifically designed for veterans above the age of 40, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills and remain active in the sport.

Meanwhile three days Jammu and Kashmir UT Lawn Tennis Open Championship will begin from Monday.
