J&K YS&S kicks off skiing course in Gurez

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) In an initiative aimed at nurturing youth talent, the Department of Jammu and Kashmir Youth Services and Sports (YS&S)on Sunday kicked off a 10-day Skiing training course in the picturesque Gurez valley of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The 10-day training course was inaugurated on Sunday at Darthani Nallah Badwan Gurez by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gurez and the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Gurez, marking the beginning of an exciting initiative aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting winter sports in the area.

Under the guidance of the Director General of Youth Services & Sports (YS&S), the course will see the participation of 50 enthusiastic boys and girls.

The program is being conducted under the supervision of the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Bandipora, along with the dedicated physical education staff of Zone Gurez.

The Department’s consistent efforts have not only popularized skiing in Gurez but are also paving the way to introduce Gurez as an attractive winter tourism destination.

By equipping young participants with essential skiing skills, the program aims to foster a new crop of players while boosting tourism and economic activity in the area.

Speaking at the inauguration, the SDM of Gurez emphasized the transformative impact of such initiatives on the youth and the local economy.

“This skiing course is not just about sports; it’s about empowering our youth and putting Gurez on the map as a winter destination,” he said.
