Bengaluru, (UNI) Delhi Capitals Women extended their lead at the top of the table and officially secured their place in the next round with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday.
A blistering unbeaten 80 from opener Shafali Verma powered Delhi to 151/1 in just 15.3 overs while chasing a target of 148. Shafali played an explosive 43-ball knock, smashing 8 fours and 4 sixes, and was well-supported by Jess Jonassen, who remained unbeaten on 61 off 39 deliveries, striking 9 fours and a six to seal the comfortable chase.
RCB managed only one breakthrough when Meg Lanning (21) was dismissed by Renuka Singh Thakur in the third over, caught by Ellyse Perry. However, Shafali and Jonassen’s commanding 146-run stand dismantled the RCB bowling attack, leaving the hosts with no answers.
Earlier, RCB posted 147/5 in their 20 overs, with Ellyse Perry anchoring the innings with a well-crafted 60* off 47 balls, featuring 3 fours and 3 sixes. Raghvi Bist contributed 33 off 32, while Danielle Wyatt-Hodge chipped in with 21 before falling to Marizanne Kapp.
For Delhi, Shikha Pandey (2/24) and Nallapureddy Charani (2/28) were the pick of the bowlers, while Kapp grabbed a crucial wicket to restrict RCB to a moderate total.
With this emphatic win, Delhi Capitals further solidified their position at the top of the WPL standings, while RCB will look to regroup ahead of their upcoming matches.
