Bhopal: Tightening the noose on cyber criminals, Bhopal Cyber Crime Branch has arrested Syed Parvez Hashmi, a rewardee of Rs 10,000, who was absconding for four years, from Delhi. The accused used to deceive people by pretending to be a customer care officer that their credit card would be blocked.
The arrested accused Syed Parvez Hashmi is a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi and has studied till 12th. Police investigation revealed that he used to run a fake call center and call people pretending to be an officer of State Bank of India. He used to get credit card information and OTP by showing fear of card being blocked and then used to withdraw money from the accounts.
Doctor from Bhopal was cheated of Rs 3.61 lakh
On August 12, 2020, a similar fraud took place with Bhopal resident Dr. Devpriya Shukla. He received a fake call in which the caller introduced himself as an SBI official and took the OTP saying that the card was blocked. After this, Rs 3,61,999 was withdrawn from his account. On the complaint, a case was registered on 20 August 2020.
Success achieved through technical investigation
Under the direction of Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra, Additional Police Commissioner Pankaj Srivastava, DCP Akhil Patel and ACP Shailendra Singh Chauhan, the cyber branch gathered information at the field level along with technical analysis to catch the accused.
The team raided Delhi and caught the accused and seized three mobile phones, four SIM cards, an ATM card and a Wi-Fi router from him.
Two accused have already been arrested
In this case, two accused Zakir Hussain and Anuj Kumar (resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh) have already been arrested. The cheated amount was transferred to the accounts of both, which they withdrew.
