Gas Leak Contained at GAIL Plant in Mandideep

Bhopal: A gas leak occurred at the GAIL plant in Mandideep, near Bhopal, around midnight on Tuesday-Wednesday. Upon receiving reports of the leak, the fire safety team promptly arrived at the scene. After extensive efforts, the leak was successfully contained by about 10 am on Wednesday. During this time, a fire ignited within the plant.

As a precautionary measure, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response (SDR) were dispatched to the site. Authorities established a one-kilometer exclusion zone around the plant by erecting barricades. Firefighters from Mandideep were also summoned to assist. The surrounding area was evacuated for safety.

Local police, including Satlapur and Mandideep police, as well as a Home Guard team, were deployed to manage the situation. GAIL’s safety team from Jaipur has arrived to conduct a safety audit of the facility.

GAIL’s Project Manager, D. Dongre, confirmed that the situation is under control. He said, “The leak has been controlled. There is no possibility of any kind of damage. There is no need to close schools or evacuate the surrounding area.”

Local officials, including Collector Arun Vishwakarma, SDM Chandrashekhar Srivastava, SDPO Sheela Surana, and Naib Tehsildar Nilesh Sarvate, have inspected the plant following the incident.
