New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, along with party workers, staged a protest outside the BJP headquarters here on Wednesday, demanding an apology and the removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the Cabinet over his remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha.
Addressing the gathering, Arvind Kejriwal, expressed strong disapproval of Amit Shah’s remarks in the Upper house , stating that they amounted to an insult to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
“Amit Shah mocked Dr. Ambedkar by saying, ‘Chanting Ambedkar, Ambedkar won’t help; it’s better to sing the praises of God, and maybe you’ll reach heaven.’ I want to remind Amit Shah that for millions of Dalits, the poor, the oppressed, the marginalized, and the underprivileged in this country, Dr. Ambedkar is no less than a God,” he said.
Arvind Kejriwal further emphasized, “We cannot say if one reaches heaven after death, but here on earth, millions of underprivileged people owe their dignity and rights to Dr. Ambedkar, who gave them the Constitution. Amit Shah’s comments have deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians.
Arvind Kejriwal also slammed the BJP, stating, “The way Prime Minister Modi defended Amit Shah makes it evident that this was not a spontaneous remark but a calculated strategy by the BJP to insult Dr. Ambedkar in Parliament. We strongly condemn this.”
“The BJP has now made its position clear: they are against Dr. Ambedkar and the Constitution he gave us. BJP supporters must now choose—do they stand with Dr. Ambedkar or with the BJP? They cannot support both. The BJP’s leadership has unequivocally shown their disdain for Dr. Ambedkar, and we demand strict action against the Home Minister. While no action can completely undo the hurt caused, it is essential to send a message that such disrespect will not be tolerated,” he said.
“We will take this matter to every household, exposing how the BJP’s top leadership has insulted Dr. Ambedkar. In Delhi and across the country, we will ensure people are aware of how the BJP is disrespecting the architect of our Constitution. We deeply condemn these remarks and share in the pain felt by millions,” the former CM asserted.
AAP’s senior leaders, including Manish Sisodia, MP Sanjay Singh, National General Secretary (Organisation) Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Chief Minister Atishi, and Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, alongside several MLAs, were present at the protest.
Meanwhile Senior AAP Leader Manish Sisodia said, “Home Minister Amit Shah appears irritated by the growing reverence for Dr. Ambedkar. Today, the entire nation is chanting, ‘Ambedkar, Ambedkar,” he said.
