Washington, Dec 15 (UNI) ABC News announced that it would pay $15 million to settle a case of defaming US President-elect Donald Trump.
In March, Trump filed a lawsuit against ABC News, whose host claimed that the politician was found guilty of raping writer E. Jean Carroll, although the jury only mentioned sexual harassment.
The channel specified it would make the payment to the Trump presidential library to settle the case.
The New York Times noted that ABC News was expected to soon publish a statement expressing regret for its host’s words about Trump in March.
In January, a New York jury ordered Trump to pay more than $83.3 million in damages to Carroll’s lawsuit. The former president sought a delay of payment but was denied in March. In April, his request for a new trial was denied.
Carroll claims Trump raped her in a New York City store fitting room “in late 1995 or early 1996.” Trump denies the accusations, insisting he has never met her and thinks the case against him is “crazy.”
