Abu Salem lodged in Nashik jail after Delhi court hearing

Nashik, Aug 4 (UNI) Abu Salem, the prime accused in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, was sent to Nashik Road Central Jail under tight security from Maharashtra’s Manmad town, officials said on Sunday.

Manmad railway station resembled a fortress as Salem was brought there from New Delhi on a train on Saturday, they said.

Salem was brought from New Delhi to Manmad by the New Delhi-Bangalore-Karnataka Express and taken by road to the Central Jail at Nashik Road under tight security.

A case has been registered against Abu Salem in the Delhi Police over a bid to extort money from an industrialist in 2002. He was taken to Delhi for the hearing in this case.

Abu Salem was earlier serving his life sentence in the 1993 blasts case in Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai.

On Saturday around 3.30 pm, after the Karnataka Express reached platform number four at Manmad station, the anti-terrorist central security team in the train surrounded the full carriage after which Salem got out.

Commandos, Rapid Action Force, senior officers of the security agencies were present as Salem was driven off to Nashik jail in a police vehicle waiting outside the Lohmarg Police Station.
