Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, India sends 15 tonnes relief aid to flood-hit Nigeria

New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nigeria this weekend, India on Thursday dispatched 15 tonnes of aid to the western African nation to provide support to those affected by the devastating floods there.

The aid comprises of food, sleeping mats, blankets, water purification supplies and other relief items.

The MEA spokesperson said in a post on X:

“Committed to Humanitarian Assistance.

“India dispatched 15 tons of aid to Nigeria to provide support to those affected by the devastating floods in the country. A further assistance of 60 tons of aid will be sent in due course.

“The aid comprises food, sleeping mats, blankets, water purification supplies and other relief items.”

PM Modi travels to Nigeria on November 16-17 on the invitation of the President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This will be the first visit by a Prime Minister of India to Nigeria in 17 years. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks to review the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria and discuss further avenues to enhance the bilateral relations.

Nigeria has been facing the brunt of the weather, with heavy rainfall causing floods in many parts of the country, resulting in significant loss of life and property.

The National Emergency Management Agency said that 321 people have lost their lives so far, while

7,40,743 people have been displaced due to the floods. The floods have also damaged 2,81,000 houses, with many of them being completely destroyed.
