AIIMS Bhopal shines at MPPEDICON

  • Prof. Mahesh Maheshwari honored with KK Kaul Gold Medal

Bhopal: The Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, continually fosters a culture of academic excellence and knowledge sharing among faculty members and students. Recently, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Maheshwari, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, delivered a keynote address on “Precocious Puberty in Girls – A Rising Concern” at the 55th Annual State Conference of MPPEDICON, organized by the Madhya Pradesh Indian Academy of Pediatrics (MPIAP).” He highlighted the alarming trend of early puberty in girls, which is now being observed below the normal age of 8 years. Drawing insights from a recent systematic review and meta-analysis published in JAMA, he emphasized that the onset of puberty has been advancing by three months per decade.

Dr. Maheshwari discussed the impact of lifestyle factors such as stress, inadequate sleep, excessive mobile use, junk food consumption, and obesity on early puberty. In this conference, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Maheshwari received the prestigious Prof. Dr. K. K. Kaul Gold Medal for Eminent Teacher in Pediatrics, presented by Prof. Dr. K. K. Kaul and Padma Shri Dr. Pukhraj Bafna. He was also elected President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Madhya Pradesh Chapter (MPIAP). In addition to this, Dr. Harshita S. won First Prize in the SR/Faculty Award Competition, while Dr. Pooja Phulgirkar secured First Prize in the Poster Presentation Competition.

Prof. Singh congratulated Dr. Maheshwari on his achievements and remarked, “Dr. Mahesh Maheshwari’s recognition underscores AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to excellence in healthcare and academics. His contributions to pediatric endocrinology and child health are exemplary. I am confident that under his leadership, the MPIAP will continue to elevate the standards of pediatric care in Madhya Pradesh.” Prof. (Dr.) Shika Malik, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, also extended her heartfelt congratulations and encouraged Dr. Maheshwari to further focus on improving care for children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and other pediatric endocrine disorders.
