AIIMS launches support center for rare disease patients

Bhopal: A significant step towards improving the lives of patients suffering from rare diseases was taken today as Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal, inaugurated a dedicated Helpdesk “Aastha” within the Neonatology and Pediatrics OPD. Speaking at the inauguration, Prof. Singh expressed his optimism about the center’s potential to provide hope and support to patients. He emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare and comprehensive support services for those affected by rare diseases. The Executive Director extended his gratitude to Pfizer and Doctors for You for their collaboration in making this initiative a reality.

The event highlighted the challenges faced by rare disease patients and the solutions offered by the support center. Representatives from Pfizer and Doctors for You underscored the significance of their organizations’ involvement in addressing the needs of this underserved patient population.

AIIMS Bhopal officials detailed the enhanced healthcare services available to patients through the center, including a dedicated helpdesk. The helpdesk team will assist patients with various aspects of their healthcare journey, such as appointment scheduling, paperwork, travel arrangements, and accommodation. Additionally, the center will facilitate access to financial assistance for eligible patients under the National Rare Disease Policy. AIIMS Bhopal has secured a grant of Rs. 3 crore from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to procure essential medicines as per the NPRD 2021 guidelines.
