Alcaraz battle past Medvedev to return to Wimbledon final

London, (UNI) Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive run at Wimbledon, defeating Daniil Medvedev 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Friday to secure a spot in the final.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is now one victory away from claiming his fourth Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz, who had a shaky start by losing the first set in a tiebreaker, quickly recovered to dominate the next three sets. His energetic and attacking style of play once again captivated the crowd, reaffirming his status as one of the brightest young talents in tennis.

Alcaraz, who became the first teenager to be ranked No. 1 in the ATP rankings, is also the youngest male player to win major titles on three different surfaces: grass, clay, and hard courts. A victory in Sunday’s final would place him alongside tennis legends Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open era to win multiple Wimbledon titles before the age of 22.

Alcaraz has already secured three Grand Slam titles, with victories at the US Open in 2022 and the French Open last month. He remains unbeaten in Grand Slam finals, boasting a 3-0 record.

In the final, he will face either Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, or Lorenzo Musetti, who is making his first appearance in a Grand Slam semifinal.

This match marked a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon semifinal, where Alcaraz defeated Medvedev in straight sets before going on to win a five-set thriller against Djokovic in the final.

The highly anticipated final will be held on Sunday, promising an exciting clash as Alcaraz aims to defend his title and further cement his place in tennis history.
